The work of Nagaland Forest Department regarding the conservation of Amur Falcon has been appreciated by national and international media. It has indeed been a great success-story in the field of wildlife conservation. the achievement has been appreciated by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change,Government of India and also received many awards by communities of Pangti Village and Forest Department. The efforts have earned for Nagaland the honourable title of ‘Falcon Capital of the World’, and as a result boosted the conservation movement in the state. This is a wonderful example of how effective conservation can help increase economy of local communities by attracting tourists from all over world, The successful satellite tagging of Amur Falcon for the first time in India for plotting migration route also earned laurels to the state forest department from scientific community both nationally and internationally.
In recognition of this landmark achievement of Nagaland Forest Department, the first ‘Tigerland India Biodiversity Conservation Award 2015’ has been awarded to the Nagaland Forest Department. The award was received by Shri M Lokeswara Rao, the then PCCF & HoFF, Nagaland, by the hands of legendary Bollywood actress and Advisor TIFF Waheeda Rehman ji at a grand function in Bhopal on the evening of August 26, 2015.
