Bhawana Somaaya is a famous film journalist, critic, author and radio personality with over 36 years of experience in jornalism and 13 books to her credit. Critical of the unrealistic, stereotypical costumes of the Hindi film heroine, she had taken up a challenge from Shabana Azmi in the 80’s and turned costume designer for actor in acclaimed films like ‘Masoom’, ‘Main Azaad Hoon’ and several more, and also one marathon teleserial for Deepa Sahi in Tamas. She has contributed over 5000 columns to various publications like The Observer, The Hindu, The Hindustan Times, Pioneer and the Indian Express North American Edition. Bhawana Somaaya has to her credit 13 books which include Amitabh Bachchan – The Legend, Salaam Bollywood, Cinema – Images & Issues, Hema Malini – Authorized Biography, Bachchanalia, Amitabh Lexicon, Talking Cinema, Once Upon A Time In India. Somaaya is currently the Film Expert with Radio Channel 92.7 BIG FM and shares Bollywood updates every morning. She has served two terms on the Advisory Panel of Central Board of Film Certificate. She was conferred with Padma Shri on 13th April 2107, Delhi by the then President Shri Pranab Mukherjee.
